The CVCA girls soccer team won the 2017 Division II Kent District Championship on Thursday night. The Royals defeated the Field Falcons 3-2 in a game with a very exciting finish. It is the 2nd District title for CVCA in the last 4 seasons. The girls soccer program has now won a district three times (2017, 2014, 2010). With the win, they advance to the Regional Semi-final or more commonly know as the Sweet Sixteen. CVCA will face Lake Catholic on Tuesday, October 31st at Twinsburg High School at 7pm.
The Royals controlled play for most of the night. Two first half goals put the Royals in a good spot.
Payton Fraley scored both 1st half goals while
Maddie Critzer and
Kenzie Spodnik picked up assists. The Royals added another goal to increase their lead to 3-0 early in the 2nd half. This time
Maddie Critzer found the back of the net for what proved to be much needed insurance. To Field's credit, they never gave up. With just under 6 minutes left, the Falcons scored. Then a minute later, they scored again. CVCAÂ was able to settle down and hold on to the 1 goal advantage for the final 4 minutes of play.
