Boys Soccer defeats Padua in 2OT for District Title

10/27/2025 8:45:00 AM

The CVCA boys soccer team faced off against Padua on Saturday evening in a Division II District Championship game. It was a battle between two members of the North Coast Conference. A battle that needed more than 80 minutes to determine the winner. Padua scored first and led 1-0 with just over 25 minutes to play in the first half. A Bruins cross was headed away by the CVCA defense but fell right to a Padua attacker at the top of the box. The ensuing shot found the back of the net and the Royals would have to play from behind. From there the game was mostly even. Both teams playing hard but not many scoring chances. Then things seems to change with just under 20 minutes left. The Royals began out pacing the Bruins and started creating action on the offensive half. A couple good chances just missed, but the momentum had certainly shifted. CVCA finally broke through with just over 4 minutes left. Alex Ott played a pass from CVCA's defensive half all the way through the Bruins defense. Nick Myers ran on to the ball and beat the Padua keeper to tie the score. The final minutes of regulation and the first overtime period passed without another goal. With the golden goal rule in effect, the next score would end the game. Shortly into the second overtime period, Nick Myers found the back of the net for the game winning goal. With the 2-1 victory, the Royals claimed the District Championship. This is the 21st District Championship in program history and first since 2022. CVCA has now won their last 8 games and are unbeaten in their last 15. The Royals will face Howland in the Regional Semifinal on Wednesday, October 29th. That game will be played at North Royalton at 7:00pm.
