The CVCA Boys Soccer team has done it again. With their 3-2 win over Orange on Wednesday night, the Royals advanced to their fifth consecutive District Final game. They have reached this stage of the tournament in 16 of the last 17 years. CVCA will face Revere on Saturday, October 29th at 5pm at Nordonia High School. This is a rematch of last year's title game that CVCA won in double overtime.
Wednesday night's game was a thriller with a rapid pace and lots of action. The teams traded possession throughout the night leaving the game in balance until the very end. The Royals' three goals, superb work rate, and key saves proved enough on this night.
Braden Petno opened the scoring with 21 minutes left in the first half. He dribbled past the right back and perfectly placed his shot across the goal into the side net. Orange would tie things up quickly. They played a free kick into the box and it was deflected for a goal. The Royals regained the lead just before half.
Braden Petno again beat the Lions defense for a score. Orange would add a 2nd half goal to tie the score at two goals a piece. With just over 20 minutes remaining,
Josh Lichty earned a penalty kick when he was fouled in the box.
Braden Petno setted up and burried the PK for the 3-2 lead and hif 4th hat trick this year. The Royals defense would hold on from there. Senior goalie
Brooks Montgomery had some big saves on the night including one in the game's final minutes.
