The CVCA hockey team open their 2016-17 regular season with the Jr. Jacks Thanksgiving Tournament in Cleveland Heights. The tournament included many strong teams from the GCHL's White Division. The Royals battled in each game and played good, competitive hockey throughout the tournament. In Game 1, CVCA fell to Benedictine 6-3 after trailing 4-0 early. Benedictine would go on to win this year's tournament. Games 2 & 3 were both played on Saturday. The Royals lost to NDCL 6-3 in Game 2 and were defeated 7-2 by Bay in Game 3. CVCA made sure it was ready for Game 4 on Sunday. Despite an early deficit, the Royals battle back to defeat Mayfield 7-6 on a late goal by
Noah Polanski. The defense held strong in the final minutes for the first win of the season.
Christian Beckett (2nd from left) had an outstanding tournament finishing with 8 goals and 4 assists.
