The Royals opened league play on Saturday afternoon at The Pond in Aurora as they faced off with the Aurora High School Greenmen. The Royals were on the wrong end of a 5-2 final, but the game was much closer than the score would indicate. It was an outstanding effort for the Royals against very good Aurora team. Aurora took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission before senior captain Hayden Dickerson tied the score at 1-1 in the second. Aurora answered back to extend their lead to 2-1 going into the third period. The Greenmen struck again before freshman defenseman Jack Perrotta (pictured) scored his first official goal as Royal to close the gap to 3-2. Unfortunately the Aurora scored again to extend their lead to 4-2. Aurora also scored an empty net goal in final minute to seal their victory. Brooks Montgomery continued to shine for the Royals in net who were badly out shot early. Jack Perrotta was outstanding all game and was named Royal of the Game.
