CVCA & Walsh. A match-up that historically has been one of the best around. The latest edition of the battle of Wyoga Lake was played on Saturday. The CVCA Boys Soccer team made the short walk across the street for another instant classic.
The beginning of the game saw both teams trading possession. Walsh was able to break through and score the games' first goal. They quickly added a second, and the Royals were faced with a 2-0 deficit.
The Royals quickly responded.
Braden Petno found the back of the net with just over 10 minutes left in the first. The goal not only cut the deficit in half, but turned the momentum in CVCA's favor. With just under 3 minutes left in the first half,
Braden Petno would score again.
Jay Patsch intercepted the Walsh goal kick and found the senior forward for his 2nd goal of the game. The teams entered halftime tied at 2.
The second half would be back and forth. Both teams created opportunities and chances. CVCA's goalie
Brooks Montgomery made save after save including a few of the spectacular variety. The Royals would take their first lead of the game with around 20 minutes left.
Ryan Winquist played a beautiful ball into the box off a corner kick and found
Braden Petno at the back post. Petno blasted his header off the keeper's fingers for goal #3 and a Royals 3-2 lead. CVCA would hold on from there for the victory. After the early goals, the CVCA's defense of
