The CVCA boys basketball team tipped off the OHSAA State Tournament with a home game against Streetsboro on Tuesday night. The Royals and Rockets were both hoping to continue their season and advance to face #2 seed Woodridge on Friday night. These two teams met during the regular season at Streetsboro. That game came down to the final shot as CVCA held on to win by two points. This game would be a much different story. A hot shooting first quarter gave Streetsboro an early lead. The Rockets made 5 three pointers in the opening quarter and led 17-12 entering the second. That is when the Royals took off. They combined high pressure defense with transition offense and outside shooting to open the quarter on a 24-0 run. Two Streetsboro timeouts couldn't stop the momentum, and CVCA would enter halftime with a commanding 39-20 lead. The second half was more of the same as CVCA allowed just 16 total points in the final two quarters. The Royals went on to win by a score of 65-36. With the win, the boys advance to the Sectional Final on Friday, March 3rd. They will travel across town to face Woodridge who enters the tournament as the District's #2 seed. The game will be played at Woodridge High School at 7pm. Pre-sale tickets will be available to the CVCA community on Thursday.
