What an incredible first match for the Royals! All wins came from first time varsity participants. Callie Conner and Sarah Thelander dominated at second doubles, winning 6-0 6-2. Hannah Jacob played a very calm and focused match, hanging on to win win the first set 6-3 and the second set in a tie break. The highlight of the match was at second singles with sophomore Courtney DeCarlo. With the team match tied at 2-2, Courtney's court would determine the outcome. In her first varsity level match and playing at the second position on the team, facing a very experienced senior, Courtney got the win. She won the first set in a tie breaker (played first to 7 points, win by two), coming back from a 6-1 deficit to win 9-7, and stayed extremely composed and determined to win a tight second set 6-4. "We are proud to start our season off with a win; especially a win that demonstrates mental toughness and the hard work of our newcomers. Go Royals!" said Coach David Ramey.
