The CVCA hockey team opened Baron Cup play on Wednesday evening. The Royals were seeded 7th in Baron Cup III and faced off against #2 Cleveland Heights in the opening round. The Tigers won both regular season contests this year, but CVCA was ready for the challenge. Wednesday's hard fought battle needed more than three periods to determine a winner. In fact, it needed more than one overtime period. The Royals forced extra time with a late goal to tie the score at 2-2. After a scoreless first ovetime period, senior Jack Lammlein found the back of the net to secure a 3-2 upset win for CVCA. It was an thrilling and exciting game throughout. The Royals advance to the Semifinals and will face the winner of Chagrin Falls and Nordonia on Saturday at 3pm.
