The CVCA girls tennis team headed across town to take on Hudson, always a strong opponent. With this being only the 3rd match of the season, it was certainly the toughest test yet for CVCA. Junior captain, Amy Grace Beebe gave a convincing performance at first singles, winning 6-1, 6-1. Though Libby Cain and the first doubles team of Skylar Wood and Joy Saffles fought hard, they couldn't overcome their opponents, losing in two sets a piece. With two courts left playing, the Royals needed both to clinch the victory. Junior Kyla Moore, who lost to her opponent the previous year in two sets, showed incredible maturity and tenacity to adapt her game to the situation. She found her form to win a hard fought match 6-4, 6-4. After the win at second singles, it all came down to second doubles, with the pairing of two first time varsity players, senior Kya Shelford and freshman Grace Saffles. They won the first set 6-2 in confident fashion, but their opponents raised their level in the second set. Our girls hung tough and displayed amazing mental toughness. They played fearless tennis to win the second set 7-6 in a tie break. The Royals earned the 3-2 victory against a tricky opponent and will look to continue building mental toughness against a very difficult schedule.
