The CVCA baseball team traveled up to Chagrin Falls on Thursday to face the Tigers. The Royals were able to consistently get runners on base in this game, but it wasn't until late that the offense really broke through. CVCA took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when
Jonah Gaudio scored on a throwing error. They went up 2-0 in the 2nd when
Zac Anderson walked, stole 2nd, and scored on a
Jonah Gaudio 2 out single. In the 3rd inning,
Alex Mammone scored on a
Zac Anderson double and the Royals lead grew to 3-0. Chagrin Falls would finally answer in the 3rd inning as they pushed 2 runs across. Neither team scored in the 4th or 5th inning despite CVCA loading the bases in both innings. The Royals added an insurance run in the 6th inning when
Jacob Lancy scored on a double by
Connor McGough. The CVCA offense really opened things up in the 7th inning.
Jonah Gaudio singled in
Zac Anderson and
Jacob Lancy doubled in Gaudio to increase the lead to 4.
Ryan Wiehe stepped to the plate and drove the ball over the fence in right-center for a 2 run home run. Eight runs was more than enough for CVCA as the Royals pitchers were again very good.
Kyle Shaw earned the winning allowing just 2 runs in four innings of work.
Thad Eaton picked up the save pitching the final three innings of the win. The boys are set to host Nordonia on Friday and Norton on Saturday.
