The CVCA baseball team hosted Lake Catholic on Monday night. The Royals and Cougars entered the week as two of the top teams in the North Coast Conference. The Royals struck first with a lead off home run by sophomore Jonah Gaudio. They added two more runs in the 2nd inning to increase their lead. Connor McGough singled in Gaudio and Jacob Lancy scored on an error. Lake Catholic trimmed the lead with a 2 run homer in the 3rd inning, but CVCA answered right back. Kyle Shaw scored on another error in the bottom of the 3rd, and the Royals led 4-2. They were able to really open things up in bottom of the 4th inning. Senior Ryan Wiehe homered to lead things off. Kyle Shaw singled in Zac Anderson and Nik Wirsching singled in Alex Mammone. Lake Catholic was able to load the bases in the 6th inning, but CVCA worked out of the jam and held on for the 7-2 win. Senior John Harabedian earned the win. Thad Eaton and Ryan Tajgiszer each pitched a scoreless inning in relief. The Royals are now 9-5 (4-0) on the season. They will travel to Lake Catholic for another important conference game on Tuesday night.
