The CVCA baseball team traveled to Lake Catholic on Monday night for their 2nd game against the Cougars. The storms stayed south and the Royals were able to get in this big conference game. CVCA scored first on a solo home run from
Connor McGough in the first inning. Lake Catholic answered with a run of their own in the first inning. The Cougars took the lead with a solo home run in the 2nd inning. The score remained 2-1 until the 5th inning. Lake Catholic added 2 runs to increase their lead to 3. They held that lead until the 7th inning when the CVCA offense finally broke through. After five scoreless innings, the Royals scored 5 times to flip the game in their favor.

Alex Mammone to get things started.
Jacob Lancy followed with a single that scored
Nik Wirsching. One out later,
Ryan Wiehe stepped to the plate with Gaudio and Lancy on 2nd and 3rd. Wiehe crushed the 2-2 pitch over the wall in dead center for a go-ahead three run homer. Lake Catholic was able to load the bases in the 7th inning, but
Connor McGough closed the door on their rally.
Kyle Shaw got a no-decision after going 4 innings and allowing 2 runs.
Alex Mammone picked up the win after two innings in relief and McGough earned his 2nd save of the season. The Royals improve to 10-5 (5-0) on the season. They are scheduled to host Mentor on Thursday for Senior Night.
