The CVCA baseball team traveled to Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin on Tuesday to face the Lions. The Royals were looking to bounce back after dropping a game to NDCL on Monday. The boys did just that. Once again CVCA's starting pitcher performed very well. Junior
Alex Mammone pitched 6 innings allowing just one run and 2 hits in the win. The Royals started fast with three runs in first inning. After an error extending the inning,
Layne Davis scored on an
Alex Mammone single. One batter later,
Peyton Drabick doubled to drive in Mammone and
Jacob Lancy. CVCA added a single run in the 3rd when
Peyton Drabick scored on a single by
Reed Jones. NDCL scored their lone run of the game in the 3rd inning and the score was 4-1.
Jonah Gaudio scored on a Mammone single in the 4th inning to extend CVCA's lead. The Royals would add on again in the 6th when Lancy and Mammone singles scored
Connor McGough and Lancy respectively. Senior
Jacob Lancy's night wasn't done there. In the top of the 7th, he crushed a ball over the fence in left for grand slam. Lancy,
Kyle Shaw, Davis, and McGough all scored to make it 11-1.
Luke McQuillen pitched a scoreless 7th to secure the win. CVCA is now 8-4 (2-2) on the season. They will travel to Holy Name on Thursday night for another NCC contest.
