The CVCA baseball team traveled to Elyria Catholic on Monday night to face the Panthers in North Coast Conference play. The Royals fell behind early in this game as EC scored twice in the first inning. CVCA quickly responded with a 4 run second.
Peyton Drabick opened the scoring with an RBI double that scored
Alex Mammone.
Jonah Gaudio scored on a RBI ground out by
Evan Wensel and the score was tied at 2. Two batters later,
Zac Anderson doubled to plate two runs (Drabick &
Bo Lanzilotta). Starting pitcher
Kyle Shaw settled in after the first inning and pitched a gem. He tossed a complete game allowing just the 2 runs. The CVCA offense would continue to add on and finish with 11 runs.
Jacob Lancy scored on a throwing error in the 3rd inning.
Connor McGough doubled to score Anderson in 4th and
Layne Davis scored on a fielder's choice to push the lead to 5. CVCA had a few chances to really blow the game open, but the Panthers were able to limit the damage.
Peyton Drabick added a run on a
Layne Davis hit by pitch in the 5th inning. In the 7th,
Jacob Lancy walked in
Bo Lanzilotta and
Alex Mammone capped the scoring with a single that scored Davis and Anderson. The Royals are now 10-5 on the season and 3-3 in conference play. They will host Elyria Catholic on Tuesday looking for their first NCC sweep.
