The CVCA baseball team hosted Padua on Thursday night. The Bruins entered the game on top of the NCC standings and the Royals were looking to keep pace. CVCA scored first with 2 runs in the 2nd inning.
Zac Anderson singled down the left field line to drive in
Alex Mammone and
Peyton Drabick. The Royals led 2-0 but left two runners on. Padua scored on a bases loaded walk in the 4th to move within one. CVCA added two more runs in the 4th inning.
Layne Davis doubled to score
Zac Anderson and
Kyle Shaw scored on a
Connor McGough sacrifice fly. The Royals led 4-1 but felt like they missed another chance to break the game open. The Bruins scored one run in the 5th inning on a steal of home when the the Royals threw over to first base. CVCA led by 2 needing six outs to secure the upset win. Padua had other plans. The Bruins plated 6 runs in the 6th inning as CVCA's pitchers and defense struggled. The Royals loaded the bases with 2 outs in the 7th, but couldn't capitalize. CVCA fell by a score of 8-4. The boys are now 11-6 (4-4) on the year. They will return to action on Monday at Benedictine.
