The CVCA boys tennis team competed at the OHSAA Section Tournament on Tuesday. It was an awesome day on the courts for the Royals. With beautiful weather at the College of Wooster, the matches were able to progress smoothly, and CVCA moved through each of their matches focusing on how they could find progress as well. For the first time in program history, CVCA qualified ALL 7 VARSITY PLAYERS TO THE DISTRICT TOURNAMENT! This accomplishment is incredibly impressive, and is exceedingly rare, even for the best teams in the state. By qualifying all 7 players, the Royals have put themselves in lofty company, cementing our status as a top team in Ohio.
Sophomore
Benjamin Dressel qualified in singles, defeating players from Canton South and Orrville. Senior
Lincoln Gates and Junior
Andrew Van Hala qualified, defeating opponents from Manchester, Central Christian, and Canton Central Catholic. Seniors
Joshua McIlroy and
Hudson Bazemore qualified, defeating opponents from Central Christian, Canton Central Catholic, and Norwayne. Finally, the unseeded duo of Senior
Owen Lee and Junior
Jack Gomez qualified defeating the 4th seeded Perry team, as well as teams from Chippewa and Orrville.
This result means that CVCA doubles teams make up 3 of the top 4 doubles teams in our sectional, as well as one of the top 4 singles players. All of our players have qualified for the district tournament next Friday and will compete for district seeding on Thursday at the College of Wooster starting at 1pm.
