The CVCA baseball team hosted Youngstown East on Thursday in the opening round of the OHSAA Tournament. The Royals secured a 10-0 victory over the Golden Bears to advance to the District Semifinal. CVCA scored 5 of their 10 runs in the 2nd inning. Alex Mammone scored on an error for the first run of the day. Jacob Lancy drove in Evan Wensel and Logan Kish with a 2 run single. Jonah Gaudio's infield single scored both Connor McGough and Jacob Lancy to give the Royals a 5-0 lead. They added three more runs in the 3rd inning. Alex Mammone scored on an Evan Wensel single. Logan Kish scored on a walk and Evan Wensel scored on a wild pitch. In the 4th inning, a sacrifice fly by Reed Jones scored Zac Anderson. CVCA ended the game by mercy rule when Connor McGough scored the 10th run of the day on a Zeke Keating fielder's choice. Alex Mammone pitched the first 4 innings for the Royals. He allowed just 1 hit while striking out 8. Ben Pittner recorded 2 strikeouts in his one inning of work. With the win, CVCA improves to 18-8 on the season. They will face Northwest in the District Semifinal on Tuesday, May 26th. That game will also be played at CVCA with a 5pm start.
