The CVCA baseball team hosted Northwest on Tuesday in the OHSAA Division III Northeast 1 District Semifinal. This game was all Royals as they cruised to a 19-0 victory over the Indians in 5 innings. CVCA scored multiple runs in each of their 4 offensive innings. Starter Kyle Shaw pitched 4 scoreless innings and struck out 6. Ryan Tajgiszer pitched a scoreless 5th to secure victory. The CVCA offense wasted no time in this game. The Royals led 4-0 before Northwest recorded an out. Jacob Lancy singled in Layne Davis to open the scoring. Two batters later, Peyton Drabick drove in Connor McGough and Lancy with a single of his own. Jonah Gaudio would also score on the play as Northwest threw the ball around. Drabick then took advantage of an errant throw back to the pitcher and scored the 5th run of the inning for CVCA. The Royals added two runs in the 2nd inning. Jonah Gaudio singled in Layne Davis and Alex Mammone doubled to score Gaudio. The 3rd inning saw the Royals score 7 more runs. Connor McGough singled with the bases loaded to score Logan Kish and Evan Wensel. Jacob Lancy then doubled to score Layne Davis. McGough would later score on a wild pitch before Lancy scored on an RBI groundout by Drabick. Alex Mammone and Zac Anderson would also score on wild pitches in the inning and score moved to 14-0. The 4th inning was more of the same. CVCA scored 5 runs to cap off a strong day on offense. Jackson Crews singled in McGough and Lancy. Reed Jones singled to score Zeke Keating. Crews then scored on a fielding error and Jones scored on a single by Davis. With the big win, CVCA advances to the District Final on Thursday. The Royals will face Lake at Bob Cene Park at 6:30pm. The team has won back to back district championship and will look to make it three in a row on Thursday night.
