The CVCA baseball team traveled over to Hudson on Monday to face the Explorers in a tournament tune-up game. With both teams still alive in the OHSAA state tournament, the game was scheduled to keep the players fresh. Hudson struck first and led 3-0 at the end of the 2nd inning. CVCA was able to answer with 4 runs in the 5th inning.
Zac Anderson scored on a
Layne Davis walk and
Jackson Crews scored on a
Connor McGough hit by pitch. Two batters later,
Jonah Gaudio drove in
Layne Davis and
Evan Wensel with a single and the Royals led for the first time. Hudson scored three times in the 6th inning to move back in front. Down 2 with 2 outs in the top of the 7th,
Peyton Drabick came up clutch. He drove in
Connor McGough and
Layne Davis to tie the score at 6. CVCA took the lead in the 8th inning on an infield single by
Connor McGough that scored
Jackson Crews. Hudson pulled even on a wild pitch and then secured the win with a sacrifice fly. The loss drops CVCA to 21-9 on the season. They now shift their focus to a huge Regional Semifinal match-up with Chardon on Wednesday.
