CVCA traveled to Tuslaw for week 6 of the 2016 High School Football season. A rainy week left the field wet and muddy, but the rain held off on Friday night. It was homecoming night for the Mustangs. Both teams were looking for a win and some momentum as they entered the second half of their schedules.
The first half was all Tuslaw. The Mustangs scored 4 times in the first half with all 4 scores coming on the ground. CVCA trailed 26-0 at halftime and would need some big plays in the second half to battle back.
In the second half, the Royals responded.
Elijah Payne and
Tre Tucker connected on a 58 yard touchdown pass to put the Royals on the board in the 3rd quarter. In the 4th quarter,
Elijah Payne hit
Jack Atwood with a screen pass, and Atwood scampered 78 yards for another CVCA touchdown. The score now stood at 26-13. After a defensive stop, the Royals returned Tuslaw's punt for a score. However, a penalty flagged negated the score and stopped the Royals momentum. Tuslaw would add a score after getting the ball back from the Royals. The Mustangs would then intercept the Royals on their final drive and score late to make the score 40-13.
Elijah Payne finished the night 20-35 for 262 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Tre Tucker caught 6 balls for 112 yards and 1 touchdown.Â
The Royals will host Indian Valley on Friday, October 7th.
