Friday afternoon saw the CVCA baseball team return to the District Final for the first time since 2008. The Royals were looking to win their first District Championship since 2004. Their opponent in the Division II Euclid District Final was the Tigers of Chagrin Falls. Chagrin came in as the #2 seed and CVCA came in as the #5 seed. These two teams met in the 2015 Sectional Final, a game in which Chagrin won 1-0.
Friday's game was again a low scoring affair. Chagrin Falls scored first with a run in the first inning thanks in part to a leadoff double. Both team's bats remained quiet until the Tigers added 2 runs in the 4th inning. The Royals finally got on the board in the 5th, scoring an unearned run with 2 outs. That would be the last of the runs in this one. Both team's final pitchers held the hitters at bay during the final 2 innings. Final score: CVCA 1 - Chagrin Falls 3
Steven Taylor,
Josh Thacker,
Noah Brook, and
Myles Burdick all singled for CVCA.
Chris Fair walked and scored the only run for the Royals.
Matt Henning pitched 3.1 innings allowing 3 runs while striking out 1.
Myles Burdick came in to get the final 2 outs in the 4th inning.
Drew Wilson pitched 2 scoreless frames for CVCA out of the bullpen.
The Royals finish the year as District Runners-up and with a final record of 14-14.
