With only 3 matches remaining in the regular season, the CVCA boys tennis team headed to Western Reserve Academy to take on the Pioneers. Though CVCA put up a good fight at first and second singles, WRA took the matches in two sets a piece. The Royals managed to win both doubles courts in two sets a piece as well. With the match hanging in the balance, it all came down to third singles with freshman Jonathan Van Hala. This is not the first time Jonathan has experienced this opportunity, and he looked to prove that his mental toughness far exceeds his age. He won the first set 6-3, but dropped the second set 6-7 in a very close tie breaker which he lost 11-13. Because of the impending rain, the coaches agreed to decide the third set in a ten point tie breaker. Though he went down early in the tie breaker, Jonathan managed to battle back, refusing to give up on the match. It was very back and forth with both players saving several match points. After saving two match points against him, Jonathan remained resolute in his mental strength and took the deciding tie break 14-12, winning the match for the Royals! This was a great team win that the Royals will look to take with them as they seek to finish the season strong!
