Coach Fairchild announces retirement

4/16/2025 10:46:00 AM

CVCA hockey coach Doug Fairchild recently announced his decision to retire from coaching after a long and impressive career. Following many seasons of coaching in Canada, Coach Fairchild joined the CVCA community as a faculty member and coach for the 2008-2009 school year. He tallied a record of 259-223-11 across 17 seasons with the Royals.  He helped guide the team to three Baron Cup Championships (2017, 2019, 2023) and numerous in-season tournament titles. Prior to the Fairchild era, CVCA hockey held a high-water mark of 12 wins in a season. They surpassed that in 12 of the last 17 seasons under Coach Fairchild's tutelage. While the impact on the ice was large, the impact off the ice was even greater. He built and developed relationships with players that are sure to continue as he enters coaching retirement. This connection is most evident in the yearly alumni game and the number of former players coming back to attend games. CVCA is beyond thankful that Coach Fairchild took a chance and moved his family here in 2008. His leadership has made a lasting impact on every aspect of Royals Hockey.

"While we are sad to see him go, we could not be more thankful for the blessing he has been to CVCA athletics and the hockey program & families. Doug is a faithful servant who has used the game of hockey to point others to Christ. He will be deeply missed." – Jon Young
