Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy is pleased to introduce
David VanDeveer as Head Hockey Coach for the 2025-2026 season. Coach Van Deveer takes over after the retirement of Doug Faichild (17 seasons at CVCA). He is an experienced hockey coach and spent time at the collegiate level with stops at the United States Naval Academy, the University of Iowa, and others. Most recently, Coach VanDeveer served as an assistant coach for CVCA a season ago. His coaching experience paired with a strong desire to help mentor disciples of Jesus make him a strong fit for the Royals.
"We are thrilled to welcome coach
David VanDeveer as our new hockey coach. Coach VanDeveer brings a wealth of experience from coaching at both the youth and collegiate levels. His passion for mentoring students extends beyond the rink, as he is deeply committed to pointing young athletes to Christ in all that he does. We are confident that Coach VanDeveer will be a tremendous leader for our hockey program and a positive influence on our student-athletes as they grow in both skill and faith."

Jon Young, CVCA Athletic Director
"I began coaching Learn to Play hockey a decade ago. I went from a rink in Chesapeake, VA to the University of Richmond, Duquesne University, the United States Naval Academy, the Iowa Hawkeyes, Dayton, OH, and now CVCA. My time spent working with Hockey Ministries International gave me incredible opportunities to combine my love of hockey with my love of Christ. My family and I moved to Northeast Ohio a year ago and God's providence brought me to CVCA and work with the incomparable Doug Fairchild. Coach Fairchild and CVCA have been so welcoming to me through my first season as an assistant and I will work to continue the standard of excellence he set through his tenure. I am excited to be the new Head Coach for the Royals, and I pray God will work through me and my abilities to be the best disciple I can be to this team. Thank you for welcoming me with open arms. Go Royals!"
