The CVCA girls lacrosse opened OHSAA Tournament play on Wednesday night at home. The Royals hosted a familiar foe in North Coast Conference member Padua. CVCA ran away from the Bruins on this night behind a career night from
Aelyn Crecco. The sophomore exploded for a career-high six goals against the Padua to lead the Royals to victory.
Padua came into the game having won six of their last eight games after starting the season 1-7, and they made a concerted effort to contain Royals' leading scorer
Greta Bigham. While Bigham was held to just two goals - the last of which was her 50th of the season - the defensive pressure opened up opportunities for a host of her teammates.
Six different Royals netted goals on the night, with
Amy Larker recording a hat trick;
Jessica Hart added a pair, and CVCA got single tallies from
Jules Youssefi and
Addie Chadima.
Avery Ucker was stellar in goal, repeatedly turning back second-half Bruins challenges. Padua mustered only a single goal after halftime.
The Royals' ninth win of the season earns CVCA a trip across Wyoga Lake Road next Tuesday when the 13th-seeded Royals seek to upset 2nd seed Walsh in the Regional Round of 16.
