The CVCA football team hosted Canton South on Friday night in Royals Stadium. It was the first home game of the season for the Royals and the CVCA community was out in full force. The boys put together a dominating performance for their first win of the season. They led 35-7 at halftime and an early 3rd quarter score put the running clock rule into effect. The Royals would win the game by a score of 49-7 as they improve to 1-1 on the season. They will make the short trip to Woodridge for Week 3 on Friday, September 4th.

The Royals started fast on Friday night with a touchdown on their opening drive. Tommy Kopec scored from 22 yards out to give CVCA the lead less than 2 minutes into the game. The first quarter proved to be all CVCA as they would score two more touchdowns on their way to a 21-0 lead. Zac Anderson had touchdown runs of 42 and 30 yards in the first quarter. The Royals' rushing attack was too strong for the visiting Wildcats on this night.

Canton South was able to find the end zone in the 2nd quarter, but the CVCA defense made them earn it. After multiple attempts inside the 5 yard line, the Wildcats pushed it in for their lone touchdown of the night. CVCA answered right back to push their lead back to 21 points. Tommy Kopec scored again this time on a 4 yard run. Later in the quarter, Zac Anderson scored his 3rd rushing touchdown. He also scored from 4 yards out and the Royals led 35-7 at the half.

CVCA started the 2nd half on defense, but not for long. A Jace Manke interception gave the ball back to the Royals on their own 30 yard line. On the next play, Tommy Kopec broke through the line and raced 70 yards for his 3rd touchdown of the night. CVCA now led 42-7. With the clock running, the game's final 20 minutes went by fast. Bo Lanzilotta would score the game's final touchdown on a 4 yard run early in the 4th quarter. The Royals ran for 410 yards in this game. The defense allowed just 178 total yards and one score.
