The CVCA football team made the short trip to Woodridge on Friday night to face the Bulldogs in Week 3 of the 2026 season. The first half was a defensive battle as both offenses struggled to move the ball. Woodridge scored the half's only points on an interception return for a touchdown in the first quarter. CVCA finally grabbed some momentum in the third quarter.
Tommy Kopec broke multiple tackles on a 51 yard touchdown run to put the Royals in front by a score of 7-6. They added on late in the 3rd quarter when
Alex Mammone capitalized on a short field and pushed across the line for a 1 yard score. After another defense stop for CVCA, the Royals were set to get the ball back early in the 4th quarter with an 8 point lead. The ensuing punt was misplayed and Woodridge recovered the ball at the 15 yard line. A few plays later, the Bulldogs scored and added the 2 point conversion to make it 14-14. With both teams having to fight for any yardage, it seemed like overtime might be in play. Woodridge was able to put together a drive late in the 4th quarter and would score with 23 left to regain the lead. The Bulldogs recovered the ensuing kickoff and the game was over. The 20-14 loss drops CVCA to 1-2 on the season. They now shift their focus to Garfield who they will face on Saturday, September 12th.
