The CVCA football team hosted Fairless on Friday night. Both teams entered the game unbeaten in conference play. The winner of this game would have a leg up on the rest of the PAC-7. The Royals got on the board first when
Ryan Wiehe scored a 2 yard rushing touchdown to cap a long drive. CVCA led 7-0 at the end of the first quarter. Early in the 2nd, Fairless scored to tie things up. The Royals quickly answered. After a long run by senior
Kyle Snider, Wiehe again found the end zone on the ground. A late interception by freshman
Joey Kopec and great field position provided
Kyle Snider the opportunity score. Thanks to a 2-point conversion, CVCA led 22-7 at the half. The second half was sure to be a battle with so much riding on the game. The CVCA defense stood tall on the opening drive and forced a turnover on downs. The Royals offense ate up most of the 3rd quarter clock before landing in field goal range. The attempt was blocked and returned 95 yards for a Fairless touchdown. The visiting Falcons were able to score again with just under 4 minutes reaming in the game. They needed a two point conversion to tie the score. The CVCA defense again came up with a big stop. Junior
Logan Scranton stopped the quarterback in his tracks just before the goal line. The Royals recovered the onside kick attempt and ran out the clock to earn a 22-20 win. The team is now 5-1 on the season and 3-0 in conference play. They will travel to Northwest next in another big matchup.
