The CVCA football team faced off against Garfield on Saturday afternoon. The game, played at Kenmore Stadium, had a 2:00pm kickoff with no lights on the field. Morning rain cleared out right around game time and didn't return. The Royals rode a big 2nd quarter of play to a 28-0 halftime lead. They scored again halfway through the 3rd quarter and the rest of the game fly by with the running clock rule in effect. The 34-0 victory for CVCA moves the team to 2-2 on the season. They will host Boardman on Friday for the final non-conference game of the season. It is also Homecoming week for the Royals.

The Royals scored on their opening drive on Saturday. Tommy Kopec capped off the 65 yard drive with a 2 yard touchdown run to give the Royals an early lead. After a fumble on their next drive, CVCA responded with another touchdown drive. This time, Alex Mammone found the end zone on 1 yard run. On the next Garfield possession, Jackson Crews intercepted the Rams' pass near midfield and raced 53 yards for the pick six. The Royals now led 21-0. They punched in another touchdown just before halftime. Tommy Kopec scored on a 22 yard run to push the lead to 28 points. Halfway through the 3rd quarter, Reed Jones scored on a 7 yard touchdown run and the Royals went up 34-0. The final quarter and a half went by in a hurry. The CVCA defense held on for the shutout. They allowed 188 yards of total offense and record 3 interceptions on the day.
