The CVCA football team hosted Woodride on Friday night. The Royals and Bulldogs are less than two miles apart which has created a friendly rivalry in many sports. CVCA scored first to grab an early lead. They added a second quarter touchdown to move in front by two scores. The Royals' defense pitched a first half shutout and things were aligned for a good night for the home team. The visiting Bulldogs were not going to back down and scored to start the 3rd quarter and seemingly grabbed the momentum. The Royals faced a 4th & 1 near midfield on their next drive and decided to go for it. While it was still in the 3rd quarter, this play was sure to be a huge factor. A Woodridge stop and they would seize control of momentum. A Royals' conversion and the game would remain in the balance. CVCA secured the first down and more as Logan Scranton broke through the line and scampered 51 yards for a touchdown. Woodridge was able to score again early in the 4th quarter but CVCA again had an answer. The Royals earned a 29-14 victory to improve to 2-1 on the season. They will open conference play next week at home against Tuslaw.
