Football wins battle with Manchester for school record 8th straight win

10/26/2024 8:05:00 AM

The CVCA football team hosted Manchester last night in week 10 of the high school football season. The Royals and Panthers have been conference rivals since 2001, but this year they met in non-conference play. It what is likely to be the final match-up between these two schools, CVCA and Manchester battled just like many of the previous 24 games. There was strong defense, steady rushing, and hard hits throughout the four quarters of play.
Both teams went scoreless in the first quarter with the defenses controlling the game. CVCA scored first on an electrifying scramble by junior quarterback Charley Levak. Manchester was able to answer with a touchdown but missed the extra point to make the score 7-6. The Royals responded one play later when junior running back Joey Kopec threw to junior receiver Brayden Harris for a long touchdown late in the 2nd quarter. CVCA led 14-6 at the half. The 2nd half story was the two defenses. Senior Calvin Warren connected on an important field goal in the 3rd quarter to push CVCA's lead to two scores. The Royals defense held Manchester scoreless in the second half to claim a 17-6 victory. CVCA finishes the regular season with a record of 8-2. They are currently on an 8 game winning streak which is the longest in program history. They also sweep the season against PAC-7 opponents (7-0). With the win, the Royals secured a home game in the Division III State Playoffs. They will host a to be determined opponent on November 1st at 7:00pm in Royals Stadium. More information to come.
