Football shuts out East, advances to Regional Final

11/15/2025 5:17:00 PM

On Friday night, CVCA hosted East in the OHSAA Playoffs. The Royals and Dragons matched up in a Division III Region 9 semifinal. CVCA, the #2 seed in the Region, were fresh off an impressive with over #10 seed Geneva. East, the #6 seed in the Region, knocked off #3 seed Hawken last week. The Royals defense stole the show in this game. They dominated the Dragons rushing attack and made key stops when they need to on their way to a shutout. CVCA scored 4 touchdowns on offense and added a safety in their 30-0 win. With the victory, the Royals advance to their first ever Regional Championship game. CVCA will face #4 seed Villa Angela-St. Joseph at Twinsburg Tiger Stadium on Friday, November 21st. The team is now 11-0 on the season as they improve the best start in school history. With 11 straight wins, the Royals have now set a new record for consecutive wins. CVCA has now won 21 of their last 22 games. There are now just 8 teams left across Ohio in Division III.

The Royals started well and scored on their opening drive of the game. Senior Joey Kopec capped off an 8 play, 58 yard drive with a 10 yard rushing touchdown. After the teams traded punts, CVCA defense took the field with VASJ at their own one yard line. On the next play, junior Reed Jones tackled the East running back in the end zone for a safety. The first quarter came to a close with the Royals leading 9-0.

In the 2nd quarter, CVCA scored two touchdowns. They scored just over one minute in when senior Wesley Keeler raced 21 yards for the score. With just under a minute to play in the first half, junior Charley Levak found junior Carter Walkley in the back of the end zone for a 2 yard touchdown pass and catch. This score came shortly after a huge defensive stand for the Royals after a long drive by East. CVCA had all the momentum at the half as they led 24-0.

CVCA scored a touchdown late in the 3rd quarter for the only score of the 2nd half. Charley Levak scored a one yard touchdown running and the 30 point running clock rule was activated. The Royals defense shined all night against East. They held the Dragons to 0 rushing yards on the night. East had some success through the air at times, but CVCA stood tall when they need to with multiple 4th down stops on the night.
