9/22/2025 8:08:00 AM

The CVCA football team traveled to Youngstown on Friday night for their first ever match up with the Boardman Spartans. The Royals turned an early battled into a blowout in this one. They returned home with a 42-10 win to improve their record to 4-0 for the first time since 2008. CVCA has had a running clock in all four games this season. This week, the Royals will travel to Lake Catholic for their inaugural North Coast Conference game. The Royals and Cougars will meet at Mentor's Osborne Stadium on Friday night at 7:00pm.

After the Royals' opening drive stalled in Boardman territory, the Spartans were able to strike first. They scored a 78 rushing touchdown on their first offensive play of the night and CVCA trailed for the first time this season. CVCA responded with a touchdown drive capped by Charley Levak finding Dirk Geiger for a 17 yard touchdown pass. The first quarter came to a close with the score tied 7-7.

CVCA took the lead in the 2nd quarter with another touchdown pass by Charley Levak. This time he found Zac Anderson from 6 yards out and the Royals led 14-7. Boardman was able to answer with a field goal and the Royals led was trimmed to 14-10. Before the first half came to a close, CVCA was able to add another touchdown. Charley Levak scored on a 1 yard sneak with just 38 seconds remaining in the half. At this point, the Royals appeared in control of the game with a 21-10 halftime lead.

After the break, CVCA came out and dominated the third quarter on both sides of the ball. The Royals scored three touchdowns in the quarter to go up 42-10. Tommy Kopec scored a 10 yard rushing touchdown and Joey Kopec added a 4 yard rushing touchdown. Charley Levak put a bow on his outstanding night with a 16 yard touchdown strike to DonGino Bickley in the final minute of the third quarter. With the running clock rule in effect, the 4th quater went by with out a score.

After giving up a touchdown on the first play on defense, CVCA went on to outscore Boardman 42-3. The Royals tallied 398 total yard of offense while allowing just 167. The defense recorded two interceptions and a turnover on downs. Senior Charley Levak threw for three touchdowns and rushed for one. CVCA finishes their non-conference schedule 4-0, outscoring their opponents 189-24.
