CVCA continued their postseason play at the District level on Thursday, May 19th. The Royals faced Woodridge in the semifinal game of the Division II Euclid District. CVCA and Woodridge met on the baseball diamond earlier this year in a 9-2 CVCA win. That game was a part of the Cuyahoga Falls City Championship. This game had much more on the line with a trip to the District Final awaiting the winner. The game was a nail biter going down the last inning. The Royals used strong performances on the mound and solid defense to shutout the Bulldogs. Final Score: CVCA 2 - Woodridge 0.
Steven Taylor pitched 5 shutout innings for CVCA allowing just 4 hits while striking out 4. Â
Chris Punka pitched the last 2 innings to seal the win.
Matt Miller went 2-4 including a huge 2-out 2 run single in the 3rd inning.
Myles Burdick was 2-3 on the day.
Drew Wilson was 1-3 and scored 1 run.
Steven Taylor was 1-4 and scored 1 run.
Chris Punka was 1-4 with 1 2B.
CVCA advances to the District Final on Friday, May 20th. They will face Chagrin Falls at 4:30pm at Euclid's Stanic Field. This is the first appearance in a District Final for CVCA since 2008. They last won a District in 2004.
