Team 22 ended the 2017 season at 7-3 and in 3rd place in the PAC-7. It was the Royals' best record since 2011 when they also finished 7-3. The team set all kinds of offensive records including the most points scored in season. CVCA averaged 40.8 points per game for a season total of 408. They passed the previous record of 339 in week 9 and added on in week 10. The 2017 season included a 5 game winning streak and some impressive 2nd half performances. The Royals fell to Manchester 42-58 in week 10 in wild and exciting back and forth game. This team not only did special things on the field but off the field as well.
The CVCA-Manchester football game always means a little extra. On Friday night, it had more to it than ever before. The Royals were looking to earn a share of the PAC-7 title and a possible playoff berth with a win. The Panthers could clinch an outright PAC-7 title, a postseason home game, and the state record for wins for Coach France with a victory of their own. All that was fun to think about, but once the game started, it was just about two very good high school football teams. The Royals and Panthers treated everyone in attendance with an thrilling back and forth game. Both team played extremely hard until the final end. Manchester picked up a 58-42 win on this night.
The Panthers opened the scoring in the 1st quarter with a 15 yard touchdown pass. After a failed 2 point conversion, Manchester made the mistake of kicking the ball to
Tre Tucker. Tucker returned the kickoff 83 yards for a touchdown, and the Royals led 7-6. Manchester answer with a 3 yard touchdown run and led 12-7 after the 1st quarter.
CVCA regained the lead in the 2nd quarter.
Tre Tucker scored again, this time on a 6 yard run. The Royals' 14-12 led was erased when Manchester drove and scored. A 8 yard TD pass and 2 point conversation gave the home team a 20-14 advantage. They increase their lead with an 80 yard touchdown run. CVCA was able to answer with an
Elijah Payne 15 yard touchdown run. Down 21-28, the Royals were looking for a stop before halftime. Instead, the Panthers found the end zone again and led 34-21 at the half.
The 2nd half was a tail of two quarters. The third quarter was all CVCA and the 4th quarter was all Manchester. Both teams scored 3 touchdowns in 2nd half with CVCA's coming in the 3rd quarter and Manchester's coming in the 4th. The Royals took a 42-34 lead thanks to three 3rd quarter touchdowns.
Tre Tucker scored on a 5 yard run,
Jordan Decatur scored on a 15 yard run, and
Elijah Payne found
Isaac Strausser for a 15 yard passing touchdown. Manchester answered with 3 scores in the 4th to earn a 58-42.Â
