Team 22 opened the 2017 season with a big 48-14 road win over Crestwood. The Royals' offense made play after play while the defense made it tough going for the Red Devils. Multiple big plays help CVCA score the most points in a game since the 2011 season (48, Oct. 11th vs Fairless). With the win, the team is now 1-0 on the season. They will host Campbell Memorial in Week 2. Kickoff is schedule for 7pm on Friday, September 1st at Royals Stadium.
CVCA opened the scoring in the first quarter. After stopping Crestwood on 4th down in the red zone, the Royals drove down the field for their 1st touchdown. Senior

Jack Atwood on a 13 yard scoring pass. CVCA added another 1st quarter touchdown when Junior
Tre Tucker took the ball around the right side for a 17 yard score.
The 2nd quarter would see 4 touchdowns. CVCA scored 3 times and Crestwood found the end-zone once. Atwood scored for the second time on the night this time with a 2 yard run. Tucker scored on 66 yard pass from Payne and the Royals' were in the driver's seat. Crestwood rushed in for a touchdown to cut the score to 27-6. After a good return, CVCA had the ball at the 50 with less than 1 minute left in the 1st half. A few plays later, Tucker took a direct snap and scored from 2 yards out. The Royals took a commanding 34-6 lead into half-time.
In the 2nd half, CVCA would score twice and Crestwood once. Payne connected with Senior
Ryan Kovar for a 10 yard touchdown pass in the 3rd quarter. That score started the running clock for a plus 30 point differential. After a Crestwood score and two point conversion, the score stood at 41-14. As Crestwood was trying to put together another drive, Junior
Jacob Decatur intercepted a pass and went 67 yards down the right sideline for the final score of the night.
The Royals' defense was solid all night. The first unit allowed just 1 score on the night. Crestwood gained just 260 yards with a large portion coming on 2 plays. On 11 possessions, the CVCA defense forced 6 punts and 2 turnovers.
