The CVCA football team hosted Crestwood on Friday night for their first game of the 2018 season. The Royals were looking to start the year on the right foot with a non-conference win over the Red Devils. CVCA was not as sharp as they had hoped, but that didn't stop them for coming away with a 24-7 victory. Despite some trouble with penalties, the Royals controlled the game on both sides of the ball for the win. They will look to clean things up heading in to a big match-up with the Aurora Greenmen in week 2.
The Royals started fast with a touchdown on their opening drive.
Tre Tucker ran the ball in from 20 yards out to give CVCAÂ an early 7-0 lead. CVCA added two touchdowns in the 2nd quarter and led 21-0 at the half.
Jordan Decatur scored from 4 yards out and Tucker scored his 2nd rushing touchdown of the day, this time from 28 yards out. The defense forced 4 punts and 2 turnovers in an impressive half of play. They allowed just 68 yards of offense on 6 drives.
The 2nd half went by quickly with each team only having 4 offensive drives a piece. After a 4th quarter touchdown by Crestwood, CVCA answered with a field goal to reach the final score of 24-7.Â
