Football falls in battle at Aurora

The CVCA football team traveled to Aurora on Friday night for a big non-conference match-up. The Royals and Greenmen met for the first time ever in a football contest. The two teams battled back and for for all 48 minutes. It was a terrific high school football game and only 1 point separate the two teams at the final whistle. CVCA couldn't answer a late score and 2 point conversion by Aurora and fell by a score of 29-28. They will travel to Canton South in week three. The Wildcats defeated CVCA 33-21 last year.

For the first time this season, the Royals played from behind. A first quarter touchdown by Aurora gave the Greenmen a 7-0 lead entering the 2nd quarter. The Royals never trailed in week 1, but they were not phased by Aurora scoring first. Instead, CVCA answered with 14 points of their own to take a 7 point lead at the half. Tre Tucker scored twice on the ground (6 yards & 26 yards) and CVCA had grabbed the game's momentum.

Aurora needed a spark in the second half and found one with a long kick return to start the 3rd quarter. That drive finished with a touchdown and the score was tied at 21. However, CVCA responded again with a touchdown before the quarter ended. Michael Bevington ran in from 13 yards out and the CVCA led 21-14 with 1 quarter left.

The Greenmen rushing attack moved the ball and found the endzone early in the 4th quarter to once again tie the score. Tre Tucker scored his 3rd rushing touchdown, this time from 11 yards, to again give the Royals the lead. The game was starting to feel like whoever would have the ball last might win. Aurora scored on a 46 yard run and looked like the would tie the score at 28. However, the extra point try went awry when the snap was dropped. The ball was picked up and throw in to the endzone for a 2 point conversion. In a matter of seconds, the game changed. What appeared to be a tie, then a Royals' one point lead, ended up a lead for Aurora. CVCA's final two drives couldn't produce points despite great effort.
