The CVCA football team traveled to Canton South on Friday night. While many people were still talking about the tough 1 point loss in Week 2, the Royals were fully focused on Week 3 and the Canton South Wildcats. They made that very clear with a dominating 32-3 win. CVCA controlled both sides of the ball to move to 2-1 on the season.
The Royals started fast in this one. Senior
Tre Tucker took the opening kick-off back for a touchdown and the Royals led 6-0. Canton South would answer with a scoring drive of their own. The Wildcats settled for a field goal and cut the score to 6-3. From that point on, it was all CVCA. The Royals' rushing attack controlled the game with 3 touchdowns.
Jordan Decatur rushed for 2 touchdowns and 180 yards.
Tre Tucker added a big 31 yard rushing touchdown in the 4th quarter.
Bryce Kightlinger added two field goals to round out the scoring. After giving up 3 points on their opening drive, the CVCA defense buckled down and held the Wildcats off the scoreboard the rest of the way. The defensive line played an outstanding game and dominated the 2nd half play. They Wildcats had no where to run and no time to throw.
Brant Simmons,
Jaxson Bernkopf, and
Austen Williams picked up interceptions for the Royals' secondary.
It was an impressive road win for CVCA. They finish their non-conference schedule at 2-1. They will begin conference play with a home game on Friday against the Fairless Falcons.
