Friday night was Homecoming for the CVCA Royals. It was also a big time PAC-7 matchup with the Northwest Indians. Both teams entered the game 4-1 on the season and among the top teams in Division IV rankings. There was not doubt this would be a hard fought battle. CVCA continued to play a tough brand of football. The Royals once again outplayed their opponents in all three fazes of the game and earned a 30-13 win. The defense forced 4 turnovers and specials teams came up with 2. The offense racked up 320 yards and 30 points. The win moves the team to 5-1 on the season and 3-0 in conference play. It also sets up a showdown at Orrville next Friday.

The first quarter ended Friday night with zero points between the two teams. The Royals has moved the ball on their first two series but stalled out before scoring. An early turnover by the Indians in the 2nd quarter, led to the first score of the game. Freshman
Kyle Snider capped a 41 yard touchdown drive with a 14 yard run. Northwest answered with a 6 yard rushing touchdown after connecting on a long pass. A bad snap led to no extra point attempt and the Royals still led 7-6. CVCA went three and out on their next series, but a fumble on the punt gave the Royals the ball again.
Shane Douglas scored from 15 yards out with just under 1 minute left in the first half, and CVCA led 14-6. That score remained, until part way through the third quarter.
Shane Douglas scored his 2nd touchdown on the ground, this one from two yards out. The Royals now led 21-6. The ensuing kickoff was popped in the air and landed in front of the Northwest returners. In the confusion,
David Lewis dove and the ball and the Royals offense returned to the field. A few play later,
Michael Bevington and
Austen Williams connected on a spectacular 35 yard touchdown pass on 4th and long. An exciting third quarter ended and the Royals led 27-6. Northwest inched back with a score on the first play of the 4th quarter. The next drive for CVCA would be crucial. The Royals were able to chew up almost 8 minutes of clock and cap the drive with a 22 yard
Bryce Kightlinger field goal. It was again a three score game and only 4 minutes were left on the clock. The Royals defense again stood tall and intercepted a pass to seal the win.
